Where do I go to get a Social Security card or to apply for Social Security? The nearest Social Security office is located at 100 Arch Street in New Britain. The phone number there is (860) 299-4844, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday (except Federal Holidays) or call the national toll-free line at 1-(800) 772-1213, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Where do I go to apply for Food Stamps, Medicaid, or other   State financial assistance? You apply for these programs at the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services which is at 270 Lafayette Street in New Britain. Their phone number is (860) 612-3400.

How do I report suspected child abuse or neglect? If you suspect that a child is being abused or neglected you should immediately call the Care Line at 1 (800) 242-2288. This is the State's 24 hour hotline for these reports. It will be most helpful if when you call you have as much information available as possible. Try to include the name and address of the child, the names of the child's parents, the name of the suspected abuser if other than a parent, dates and times of any incidents which you observed, and any other information you have which indicates that the child is at risk.
