WALKING TRAILS
This brochure describes several walking areas in the Town of Berlin, on municipally owned land. The term "walking" is used for foot travel on generally smooth terrain, where walking shoes or sneakers are adequate. A separate brochure describes some hiking trails in Berlin.

Sage Park
Sage Park is located on the Berlin Turnpike. In the park, a leisurely 1/2 mile-long trail goes around the pond. Other trails can be found behind Sage Softball Fields 1 and 2 or Zipadelli Field, with a total length of about 1 mile. The High School cross-country team uses the trails behind the Sage Fields, and they are not groomed. The trail is fragmented, and one part coincides with the paved roadway. Parking is available in the parking lot.

Bicentennial Park
The trails in Bicentennial Park may be accessed from the cul-de-sac at the end of Winesap Road (off of Norton Road) or from the west side of Kensington Road (south of Norton Road). The approximate length of main trail is 1 mile, but there are secondary trails that total about 3 miles. The trails traverse a fairly large natural area and small brooks. Parts of the Bicentennial Park trails have rough terrain and hiking boots may be appropriate.  Parking is available at the end of Winesap Road.

Timberlin Park
The main entrance to Timberlin Park is on Route 364, Southington Road (off of Route 71, the Chamberlain Highway). Access to the walking trail is at the lower parking lot. This paved walk is approximately 1 mile in length, traversing the edge of the golf course, the parking lot, and a wooded park area. This walk is wheelchair accessible.
The Amelia Green hiking trail is accessed by the sign to the west of the parking lot and is marked with green blazes. This trail meets up with the Metacomet (blue-blazed) trail in about 3/4 mile, with some rough terrain.

Berlin High School Track
The High School is located on Patterson Way (off of Farmington Ave). There are multiple rubber-surfaced lanes, and only sneakers are allowed on this track. One lap around the track is 1/4 mile. Parking is available in the lot near the tennis courts. School usage has priority.

Hungerford Park
The New Britain Youth Museum at Hungerford Park has many walking trails, located behind the museum at 191 Farmington Ave (Route 372). The shortest trail is 1/4 mile, with the longest being 1 mile. A map of the trails is on a sign near the fence at the trail entrance. A separate brochure for the Wildflower trail is available in the museum. The Pond Trail is wheelchair accessible. Parking is available in the parking lot. Open dawn to dusk.

All town parks are open dawn to dusk.

This brochure made possible by members of the Berlin Land Trust, Conservation
Commission, Parks & Recreation Commission, and Town of Berlin staff.
