THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC AS OF 5/26/2020 ON A "BY APPOINTMENT ONLY" BASIS.

THERE IS A DROPBOX OUTSIDE THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT FOR APPLICATIONS AND DOCUMENTS.  WE CONTINUE TO ACCEPT THESE VIA USPS, FEDEX, UPS, AND OTHER CURRIERS.

INSPECTIONS

-- EXTERIOR TYPE THAT DO NOT REQUIRE ENTERING AN OCCUPIED STRUCTURE

 INTERIOR INSPECTIONS 

Will perform interior on residential with both parties in agreement only.

RVI (REMOTE VIDEO INSPECTIONS) BY REQUEST AND TYPE

CASE BY CASE TO DETERMINE FEASIBILITY

The Building department administers the building codes as adopted by the State of Connecticut. The purpose of which is to apply the standards to establish life,health,public and building safety both residential and commercial through the permitting and inspection process. Additionally, the department assists in the permitting process with plan reviews, inspections and guidance in understanding the codes and regulations.  

Permits

Permits are required per Code Section 105.1 

Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge,alter,repair,move,demolish or change the occupancy of a building or structure, or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by this code, or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application to the building official and obtain the required permit.
